Wizard Character Design Assignment
Character design assignment
Going through my process of designing a wizard character for a uni project :D
The project brief was to create a wizard/witch design with design elements from either ancient Egypt/feudal Japan. I started by making brief sketches exploring what I could do with the ideas and also exploring shape language.
I then took a few designs from these that I liked and designed them further.
The Anubis inspired design was the most popular among my tutors and peers so that is the design I took forward. I explored some outfit possibilities and also some colour variations.
After I figured out what colours I wanted, I moved onto making a more detailed illustration of the character and also creating a weapon design, and thinking of a familiar for my wizard.
I went into class with this design, to gather feedback for the design and what I could change. The general consensus was that the design was too simple, had little going on and the armour aspect didn't make sense, it looked as though it was attached to nothing.
So I took these critiques and updated the design. I added more to the chest area, to give the design more detail and to also make the shoulder pads look more attached to the figure. As well as this, I took more elements from the scarab beetle to tie the design together.
Then was making the final character sheet including a front view, back view and a callout to the familiar.
